Update From My Friends That Experienced The Tsunami In The Phi Phi Islands, Thailand

December 29, 2005

Good news!! just got word from my Norwegian friends that survived the Tsunami and looks like most of the people I knew are okay with minor injuries...an interesting story to read below. I am posting this so that you can read and see these post storm photos that my friend took...Tony.....

Below is the email from my Norwegian friends:

Hi Tony!

We're okay. Came back to Norway yesterday. Left Phi Phi Islands the morning after the Tsunami hit the island. We had just woke up when we heard people were screaming, and that there was an awesome wind outside. Seconds later all of the streets were floating of water, woods and people... Our resort was all fine (except the reception area and the bungalows underneath) We found Ole, and before the third wave came in, we started climbing up the hill behind the resort (into the jungle behind The Rock). It seemed like everyone at The Rock were all fine (Maria, Matt, Anne and Christine), but the dorm was turned into a small hospital during the day/ night. We were in the jungle/mountain peak for about 20 hours, and then we walked down at sunrise (27th) and came on the first ferry to Phuket. ....then we got a flight back to Sweden, and finally - we're all fine here in Norway.

We've got messages about Richard, he was at Koh Lanta together with his father. He had a finger dislocated, and some bruises and wounds - and he will stay at Lanta until he can walk again. Karl (the Norwegian) is at hospital in Krabi (we saw him in a Norwegian newspaper) - he is all fine now it seems. We will enclose some pictures from Phi Phi the morning we walked down (from Tara Inn - which is still a resort with a few rooms available...)

What about you? Where are you at the moment?

All the best - Hanne and Bjørn
