**UPDATE 01/14/2005 - LEAVING VIETNAM **
Closing out the Vietnam leg of the trip...was only planning on spending 10 days, but time is flying and will have spent 18 days in this interesting country...After a stint of losing $250, Ipod and camera breaking down, forgetting my artwork on the bus and my video camera being on its last leg...I've out lasted my toys, and managed to stay in one piece and enjoy myself...pretty interesting country with all its war history and communist cloud still hanging, and seeing capitalism quickly infiltrate the culture and people....anyone here over the age of 40 has experienced some form of pain from the war...
Was thinking about some of the snapshots of my travels here: police randomly searching my hotel room while I was sleeping, some girls I was traveling with swore they saw a dead body on the road one night between Hoi An and Na Trahng (confirmed by a few people I met tonight that saw bodies as well), popular saying from locals when describing something "same, same....but different", very young kids here just born to sell postcards or whatever, having the killer meals/beer for about a buck (US), beautiful countryside of Dalat, early morning sunrise at the red sand dunes in Mui Ne beach, and traveling up the Mekong River into Cambodia...pretty killer stuff....Will head up the Mekong into Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia tomorrow am....should be in Ankgor Wat in a few days and then close out this leg of the journey in Laos (supposedly amazing scenery that has yet to be bombarded with tourism)....then will be completely stoked to hook up with you, Ed and get on with the surf leg of the trip.... tons of travelers saying how killer Australia and New Zealand are...Tony
