UPDATE FROM CAMBODIA - JANUARY 20, 2005

Some pics from the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh....The Killing Fields are where close to 9000 Cambodians were brutally killed during the reign of the Khmer Rouge....the leader Pol Pot, led all the people in the country to kill and torture over 3 million of the city folk...if you were from Phnom Penh and looked somewhat intelligent (ie, wore glasses, knew how to read, etc...you were worked/starved to death and if you survived several months on end...then several people, kids, women were sent to the killing fields to be brutally murdered (some methods used were decapitating with palm tree branches to save valuable bullets, buried alive, etc..) they say the Khmer Rouge form of genocide was more horrifying than what Hitler did....veryemotional/depressing, but something you have to do if in Phnom Penh....

Foreign Correspondents Club (FCC) is a landmark where many journalists have hung out over the decades through the war...very cool...can have a drink/dinner and look out over the river...Happy Herb Pizza is pretty much what you'd imagine- apparently really does a number if you go for 'extra'..

Oh ya, forgot to mention recent the Khmer Rouge reign was...only 25 years ago....so anyone that was born in the last 25 years almost certainly had family killed in that very recent period of terror....locals are pretty cool, but a fair amount of poverty and victims of landmines...still millions of landmines that are scattered across the country...several people still dying/losing limbs every month in the countryside....
