Feb 20, 2005 - Stradbroke Island, Shark In The Water
Attached are some photos of Stradbroke Island. We got a ferry from Cleveland (30 mins from Brisbane) across Moreton Bay to what the Aussie’s call “Straddie”. Stayed at Marnie’s friend’s house at Point Lookout. The island was a laid back, chilled out island with squeaky white sand and clear turquoise water. Straddie is also known for a high population of TIGER SHARKS as Eddie spotted whilst taking photos of Tony surfing. The shark was about 7 ft long and about 50 yards from Tony – minutes after we saw it, the lifeguard boats and helicopters were chasing it away. The weather has been scorching hot as proven by Eddie’s lobster red back/shoulders. We managed to catch a few waves on Main Beach – it was fun but nothing too clean. The wide open, uncrowded main beach that is 38 kilometers long left much to the imagination with spectacular scenery and uncrowded wave potential…… need a cyclone swell! Just before we left the island we went to Brown Lake (gets its name from surrounding tea trees) where we had our first sighting of local Australian Aboriginees.
