March 21, 2005 – Climbing the Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one the world’s largest (but not longest) steel arch bridge and, in its beautiful harbour location, has become a renowned international symbol of Australia. The Harbour Bridge was officially opened in March of 1932. We were fortunate enough to meet a friend of a friend at a barbeque who works for BridgeClimb. She was able to set us up with a free (VIP) climb as Media because of some of the travel articles we are working on. Bridge Climb was officially opened on October 1, 1998. We must say that it was one of the most spectacular views we have ever seen as we made our way along the catwalk to the pylon and then set out across the arch to the summit. It was a spectacular 360 degree view of Sydney Harbour! A few facts: Over 1.4 million people have climbed the bridge; On a BridgeClimb climbers will climb 1439 stairs; Over 1900 people have gotten engaged whilst on a Bridge Climb.
