May 6th, 2005 – Raglan Continues To Pump

Hey everyone, this is Eddie writing. For the past three days, the surf as just been pumping. We all feel like we have died and gone to heaven! This wave is like a machine that just peels down the line with some tubing sections. It was another epic session last night at Raglan. It definitely had to be among one of my top 5 best surf days ever. I still can’t believe the quality of this wave. I all can say is that I had about 5 waves that were double overhead and about 200 yards long at the least. You drop in pretty deep, then the wave would just line up and it was full speed ahead down a steep wall of water. Then you get several sections where it was just throwing these large open tubes. I can recall two of my waves where I was in a full stand up tube and looking out to my right at shallow rocks. At that point I was just praying to come out in piece and make it past the section; and thankfully I did. Everyone at the second point was just hooting as I was coming down the line. I still can’t tell you what an incredible evening it was. You really had to be here. This wave is world class; definitely put it on your list of places to surf if you haven’t yet. We didn’t get any picks of this evening’s session, but we did get video which I will share later.

As far as today, it is just another epic day. See pictures below. It is definitely solid double over head surf. The wind was blowing so hard offshore that the face was full of speed bumps. You definitely had to hold on as you are flying full speed down the line. With the combination of the wind and spray blowing in your face, our eyes were mostly closed as we dropped into these massive walls of water. I definitely got my share of serious beatings today. The surf is supposed to continue to pump for the next 4 days. We send our thanks to the surf gods! The journey continues…………
