June 2, 2005 - Leaving The Wainui Orchard, Heading South
Well, we must say that we had a great time up north at the Wainui Orchard with Matt, Kathy, Bryan, Hannah, Roxy the Dog, and the 10 cats. We are definitely going to miss the great hospitality and home cooked meals. They spoiled us so much while we were there that it's going to be hard going back to our poor ways of traveling! We ate lots of fruits and veggies from there organic garden. Most of the meals that Kathy cooked for us were from crops that they grew in their garden; not to mention they were soooooo delicious! If you guys are reading this, Thanks again for everything! It was great catching up with you and hopefully we'll see you again soon at the Orchard!
There wasn't much for surf today at Shipwrecks, so we are making our way south back towards Raglan. The forecast for the next few days is "Cold, Windy, and Rain". Sounds like a lot of fun, NOT! Eddie is just about over the cold and rain is in definite need of Sunshine. So he his going back to Australia on Sunday for two weeks to catch up with a friend and soak in some rays. Tony will stay in New Zealand with Flipper since he just got back from Australia. We will meet back up in a few weeks then head to Fiji for some serious sun and surf!
A funny story: As we were driving back through Auckland towards Raglan, we saw the most amazing view of the city from the freeway. We decided to pull over because it was definitely a Kodak moment. Eddie pulled Flipper over onto a grassy area on the side of the freeway so we could take some pictures. As we tried to pull away, the rear tires just kept spinning. Before you knew it, Flipper was buried deep and going nowhere. We attempted to get Flipper out for about an hour until we finally realized that it wasn’t going to happen; not to mention that we were both covered in mud. It was now time to call for a tow truck! Well, after about wasting two hours for a photo, we finally got back on the road. The photos came out pretty good too! It was now about 11pm so we decided to stay the night in Auckland at Tim & Mario's house. The journey continues.
