June 17th, 2005 - Funnel Bay, Airlie Beach Area, Australia

Airlie beach is actually the name of the town that we stayed in. It is often referred to as the "Gateway To The Whitsundays". Airlie beach actually doesn't have much of a beach considering its name. The majority of the boats that depart to the Whitsundays and its surrounding Island leave from here. We were tipped off by a local of a beach just 10 minutes out of town called Funnel Bay. Not many tourists know about it which makes it very private and you have to take a dirt road to get to it. There are no signs posted from the road showing that there is even a beach near by. We checked it out early in the morning then came back at sunset. When we came back at sunset there was a school of Tiger Sharks swimming around near the beach. You could see the fins popping up out of the water of and on. So we decided to pass on a swim. This beach reminds me of Gilligan's Island. The journey continues....
