July 2, 2005 – Surfing Cloud Break, Tavarua Island, Fiji
The dream finally came true and we were able to surf Cloud Breaks today. For those of you who are not familiar, it is actually one of the best waves in the world when it is working. You also have to stay on Tavarua Island which is about $269.00 US per night in order to surf it. The only day that it is open to the public is on Saturdays because that is when guests come and go from the Island. They only allow 14 people to surf it so that everyone can get waves. It wasn’t a classic day at Cloud Breaks, but we did manage to get some good ones along with a handful of barrels. It was definitely the best surf that we have had in Fiji so far.
We also got to go on the Island which you will see in the pics below. It is definitely a very nice place if you can afford to pay the price and well as find an opening. Tavarua is usually booked about 365 days per year! Mike and Cindy from California who we met at Sea Shell Cove were also fortunate enough to get in as well. Mike is traveling alone and Cindy was traveling with her family. Well, again I am pressed for time and internet access is limited so I have to cut this one short. I will most likely not be able to post anything again until Friday.
