July 26, 2005 - Only On Bikes In Bali
Note: Because internet connections in Bali are so slow, I have to limit the amount of photos I post. I also have to compress the photos so much that the quality is not the greatest
I thought that it would be interesting to show you some of the interesting things I see on bikes in Bali. It is truly amazing some of the things that people can carry. Below are just a few photos to share. Personally, I have a hard enough time riding my motorbike with two people, two surfboards, and two backpacks. Everyday that I get on my motorbike I truly feel like I am risking my life. You just can't believe how people drive in this country. People just pull out in front of you and nobody gets mad. There are often times that I am riding down the road and next thing you know there is a car on the wrong side of the road coming at me that doesn't move. Motorbikes pretty much get no respect on the road here. Bali is the only place where you can drive on the wrong side of the road and get away with it. Because there are often traffic jams, it is normal to just pull up onto the sidewalk with a motorbike to get around the traffic. For those of you who have been to Bali before, then you can relate to what I am talking about. At this point, I have just made it a habit to say a quick prayer everyday when I get on my motorbike!
Other than that, life is good in Bali. I plan on staying in Indonesia until at least December. It feels good to finally get settled somewhere and actually have a room where I can unpack and call home for a while. I have also made lots of new friends as well as seen many old friends. The surf finally died down today so I am taking the day off. It has been nonstop pumping waves since my arrival and I have just been beat from surfing so much as well s getting pounded! It feels good to just relax and do nothing. As soon as I finish updating this webpage I am off for a massage! The journey continues.....
