Note: Because internet connections in Bali are so slow, I have to limit the amount of photos I post. I also have to compress the photos so much that the quality is not the greatest.
We left the Island of Nusa Lembongan today at 3am and pulled up to Desert Point
around 8am. Desert Point is considered to be one of the world’s best
Left Hand Point breaks when it is working. It’s located on the Island
of Lombok and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere! Besides being well
known for its wave, it’s also known for mosquito’s carrying Malaria.
Unfortunately, when we pulled up it was pretty much flat. The tide was also high which contributed to the situation. Desert Point is a very fickle wave that can change in a matter of minutes from Poor to Good (or Good to Poor). The only thing to do at this point was to sit and wait around for the tide to go out a pray for some waves. There were a few little kids on the beach that kept yelling at our boat. So out of pure boredom, I decided to paddle my surfboard to shore and see what they wanted. I did take them some waters since it was a scorching day.
Well, once the tide went out we did get some waves for about an hour or so. It wasn’t a classic Desert Point session, but I guess better than nothing! We were also the only ones in the water so that definitely made the situation a little better. Rumors have it that this place can get pretty packed when the wave is working at its best! We will most likely blow out of here tonight at 3:30am and head to the Island of Sumbawa. Apparently the waves are supposed to pick up in the next few days. The journey continues……
