Note: Because internet connections in Bali are so slow, I have to limit the amount of photos I post. I also have to compress the photos so much that the quality is not the greatest.

Today we pretty much just traveled all day by boat. Left Desert Point this am in route to the Island of Sumbawa in hopes of catching the next swell that everyone has been talking about. It was a beautiful sunny day and the scenery along the coastline was just amazing. The water here is also crystal clear with a beautiful blue shade to it! It is probably some of the clearest water I have ever seen in my lifetime.

We did make a few stops along the way. Our first stop was for lunch and a quick snorkel off of the Gilli Islands where Bobby the boat captain set the anchor. The second stop was by far more interesting. We basically just pulled up just off of the coast of Lombok at about 4pm which is where we would set anchor for the night. This was definitely a very primitive area with just a few fishing boats along the beach. Naomi and I decided to head to shore just to check things out as well as put our feet on some land for a while.

As we pulled up to the shore in the dingy, there was no one in sight. Then out of nowhere, there were all kinds of people running our way. We didn’t really know what to expect at that moment. It was basically all of the local village kids and a handful of adults. We just smiled and said hello as we waved our hands. We obviously didn’t speak Indonesian and they didn’t speak much English. All of the kids were going crazy trying to get in front of my camera for a picture. As I walked down the beach with some of the kids, Naomi stayed behind trying to have her own conversation with some of the locals. When I finally got back to where Naomi was, the vibe had changed. I went from feeling pretty safe to feeling a bit overpowered. While I was down the beach, a few more locals had come over to Naomi. One of them seemed very strange and maybe even a little drunk. He had somehow managed to get Naomi’s watch off and had strapped it onto his wrist. At this point he was pretty much thinking that he had himself a new watch. I kept telling him to give the watch back as he just starred at me with a strange look. I just kept smiling at him trying to make the situation comfortable. At this point, everyone was starting to hound us for something. They wanted my watch, my shirt, and even my camera. It was pretty much time to get the hell out of here! I whistled from the shore for our dingy to come pick us up. I also did manage to get Naomi’s watch back a lot easier then I thought it was going to be. So we pretty much just kept smiling at everyone and waving goodbye as we made our way to the dingy. We were both very relieved to get back to the boat with all of our stuff! Most of the pics below are from our adventure to the beach. The journey continues…..
