Note: Because internet connections in Bali are so slow, I have to limit the amount of photos I post. I also have to compress the photos so much that the quality is not the greatest.

Tonight was a very close call on my motorbike. I was on my way home from the beach with Nici on the back and it was about 6:30pm. As we were driving down the dark streets out of town I hit a dog head on. I was probably going about 45 mph and it all just happened so fast. It just came out of nowhere and all I could do was hit it. I tried to swerve a little but it was just too late. My first thoughts were that we were definitely going to crash which was the last thing that I wanted to happen having Nici on the back. As I hit the dog I just held the handle bars so tight trying not to lose control. After hitting it head on, the dog spun around the side and hit my foot and rear brake pedal. It just screamed so loud as I felt my front tire hit it and then my foot. I managed to keep the bike under control and we didn’t crash.

Now comes the worse part! As kept driving, I was still in shock and shaking from what had just happened. On top of that, I kept hearing the scream of the dog in my head. I wanted to go back, but I knew that there was probably nothing that I could do. I ended up pulling over and dropping Nici off at a restaurant while I headed back to find the dog. As I drove back, I found the dog lying on the road screaming in pain. Now my only thought was to put it out of its misery. It was lying in front of a few road side stores and no one even bothered to look at it. I tried to get one of the Indo guys to kill it but he basically told me to do it. At first I thought about getting a stick and hitting it over the head. Then I thought what if I don’t kill it on the first hit??? I ended up getting a rope and I tried to basically strangle it. I was having a hard time doing it and all of the Indonesians were watching me like I was crazy. On top of that, traffic was slowing down and another car managed to run its legs over while I was trying to strangle it. I was trying not to touch it because its whole side was torn open and bleeding like a fountain.

So now the dog is lying in even more pain as I try to put it out of its misery. I ended up tying a loop in the end of the rope then running the rope through it. Basically like what you do when you hang someone in the old days. Now I get the rope around its head and I just pulled it tight and lifted the dog off of the ground. I could see it gasping for air as I just kept jerking the rope up trying to snap its neck. It was a terrible feeling having to do this. On top of that, there were now about 8 Indonesian who didn’t speak English watching me probably thinking that I was a mad man. The Dog finally took its last breath of air and just went limp. I dragged it across the street and dumped it in some bushes. Then as went to get on my motorbike the Indonesian were yelling at me not to leave the dog there. Well, I had no plan on taking it with me and that was pretty much the best spot where to leave it. So I just looked at them, said sorry, and just took off as they yelled at me. Below are just a few miscellaneous pics.
