Note: Because internet connections in Bali are so slow, I have to limit the amount of photos I post. I also have to compress the photos so much that the quality is not the greatest.
As many of you are aware, I left Bali to meet up with Nici in Western Australia for a few weeks. I was planning to take a little break from surfing and see the Outback, do some hiking and camping in the National Parks, check out the coast, etc…. Our journey started in Perth with a 14 hour drive the first day. Definitely a long day of driving! We made it to Karijini National Park which is North of Perth in the Outback. Did some hiking, saw lots of gorges, and even did some swimming in the natural water pools.
We cut over to the coast for our next stop to a place called Coral Bay. Coral Bay is supposed to be a great place for snorkeling and diving. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing so hard that it was really possible to snorkel. The water was a very beautiful turquoise blue. There was even another bay close by that was full of reef sharks about 5 ft long. So no swimming there!
Next stop was at another beach called Denham to meet up with Nici’s relatives. By the way, they are also German but living in Perth. Again the wind was blowing pretty hard the first day. We did manage to find a nice little beach nearby that wasn’t too windy and very beautiful. We ended up just chilling at the beach for a day and doing some fishing.
We continued south making our way back towards Perth with a stop in Kalbarri to meet up with some more Germans. Nici is living with a friend Moni (also German) in Perth who was camping in Kalbarri with two other Germans (Damir & Martin) who just arrived. Damir and Martin are planning to spend a year traveling and working throughout Australia. In Kalbarri we all ended up doing several hikes along the coast as well as in the Kalbarri National Park.
It was a good change of pace to do something different other than surfing for once and of course see Nici which was the main reason I went to Western Australia! There is one thing about the trip that drove me crazy, which were the flies! You can’t even imagine how many flies are in W.A. It’s enough to make a person go crazy. I had to go and buy a fly next to keep them from flying into my mouth, ears, and nose. The funny thing was that they barely even bothered Nici. As far as me and the other boys, they just wouldn’t leave us alone. You can’t even imagine what it is like! I think that all in all I spent about 40 hours driving the past few weeks. Well, below are just a few pics to share. Enjoy….
