July 15th, 2006 - Breaking A World Record, Bali

Written By Naomi:

It’s Nana again filling you in on the latest adventure. Currently Ping and Pong, Eddie, and I are unofficially world record holders for the most people riding a wave. After our surf at Middles and some breakfast along the beach at Zanzibar we went to Halfway Kuta to take part in the Quiksilver event to break the world record. They gave the four of us fluorescent pink Roxy rash guards. Oh so sexy on the guys! One hundred and twenty three people participated in the event. They lined us up before everybody shouted and charged out. There were people all over the place behind and in front, some soft boards and some regular. At first they had us paddle out to the set waves. People were taking off and turning instead of going straight. On the first wave where they really gave us the go for it signal, it looked like surfer soup a la Indian Ocean. Eddie made it up and riding on that one, but there weren’t enough people on it. They attempted to get everyone back in to catch the whitewash, then back out further, and then back towards shore until they had everybody get back on the sand to reorganize for the final attempt. In the end they counted 55 up at once, but Guinness has to review the footage for it to be official. The last and still unofficial record was 46 people somewhere in Australia. On a different note, Ping and Pong left this morning. We’ll definitely miss hanging out with them, but there aren’t too many dull moments with Eddie around. He always seems to find or rather make the fun happen.
