Tony Update-Western Australia
Below is another email I received from Tony. Tony left South Africa and had a quick stop in Australia. Now he is in a Hawaii making his way home to New York. It will be interesting see what he does next… Real Job??????
Ed,
Was not planning on spending time in West Oz coming back from Africa, but decided to rent a car and head north on a whim after talking to a guy I met at the Billabong pro from Gnarloo...pulled in to Kalbarri (6 hours north of Perth) and Ry Craike was ripping his home break apart...when out in the line up the wave looks like a mini Teaupho the way it explodes on the rock shelf that you take off next to...pretty heavy place and not the friendliest of locals. Surfed Jakes for 5 days then headed another 9 hours north to Red Bluff/Gnarloo area. Was told you needed camping gear, so decided I’d give it a shot with my rental car and sleeping bag...slept 4 nights in the back of the car, which sucked, but scored a sick lefthander for 4 days straight and not much crowd...then rallied back to Jakes for a night and hit Pinnacles Desert on the way back...a bit like walking on a moonscape....16 hours later, pulled into Perth and flew to Sydney for a night, and hopped back on a plane to Hawaii....here in Kona enjoying my last few days before reality falls on my head.....oh well, all good things must come to an end....Tony
