Sept 30th, 2006 – First Day in The Telo’s, Sumatra
After an all night boat trip, we arrived this am at a surf spot called “Skate Parks”. The wave wasn’t the best, but we all did catch a handful of fun waves. The winds weren’t in our favor so lets just say it was a little choppy. Once you got on the wave you could get somewhat of a glassy face to ride. Anyway, it was still good and fun but I guess that I am just really spoiled these days when it comes to the surf. Didn’t get any photos of the wave.
Later in the day we went to check out another wave (Right hander) that was pretty shallow. Just a few of us paddled out on that one. You had to be pretty selective on what you dropped in on.
Martin and myself ended up going to shore and checking out the local scene. Just a handful of people living on this Island. I took a few pair of $2.00 sunglasses that I bought in Bali to give away as well as an old pair of board shorts. When we first walked up to one of the houses one of the men seemed a little aggressive. We were both a little concerned at first. Once I offered them some goodies, the tone changed. Imagine that! As it turns out, the guy who got my surf trunks was the so-called “King Of The Island”. He was so stoked to get them and threw them on over the shorts he was wearing.
