December 13th, 2006 – Arrived in Taiwan
Tim and I arrived in Taipei, Taiwan last night. For those of you who don’t know Tim, he is a good friend of mine who also lives in Bali. I’ve known Tim now for about 5 years. Anyway, Tim also has family in the U.S. so he decided to make the side trip with me to Taiwan (in search of waves) on the way back to L.A.
Ok, now that I got that cleared up, lets get to Taiwan. Pulled into Taipei and got the hour bus ride to the city to meet up with Joel who lives here and hopefully our guide for the next week. By the way, nobody speaks English here and I don’t speak a word of Chinese, so you can just imagine how difficult it is to get directions/information. Ended up meeting Joel at the Main Station in Taipei then we took an hour train ride to “Fulong”. Fulong is a very small town on the coast where Joel lives. He chose this place to live because it’s not too far from Taipei and there’s a wave to surf there. Speaking of the wave, we didn’t catch it very good. It was pretty small the day we surfed it, but you could see the potential. The night we pulled into Joel’s another friend of his named John (Aussie) also showed up. John has been traveling in Japan and was on his way back to Australia.
Day two of our journey we went back to Taipei to check out the city as well as the nightlife. Unfortunately, Tim was very ill with the flu so we had to make a stop at the Chinese Medicine Hospital. After that, he didn’t have it in him to make it out so he just got a room and crashed. Joel, John, and myself ended up at a club called “Luxcy” later that night. It was $25.00 USD to get in and definitely very pricey drinks. For Asia, Taiwan is a very expensive place! Lots of people with money here. The club was packed, music was pumping, and it was mainly all Taiwanese people. All of the guys were dressed like wanna be rap stars and gangsters. Guess they’ve been watching a little too much MTV! Tomorrow we are going to venture south to Hualien to meet up with another friend of ours named Tyler.
