June 28, 2007 – Road Trip, Bali
The pics below are mixed from the past few weeks where I took a few road trips when the surf was smaller. So this posting is for you non-surfers out there! Anyway, did a nice cruise on my motorbike up to Ubud. Stopped at the Monkey forest and pretty much got chased out by two big monkeys. I was video taping them, then one big monkey started coming after me. I grabbed a stick and started waving it as that usually scares them off. Well, this one didn’t get scared so I ended up whacking him in the head with the stick and broke it in half. Then another one started coming at me as the previous one sat in a daze! Then the call went out and all the monkeys started coming. Shit, time to exit this joint, so I basically ran out. The monkeys here are nasty and they all stick together! Also stopped at the rice terraces, which is always a beautiful view. Just as we were getting ready to leave, I saw a bunch of Balinese marching down the road dressed for a ceremony! It was a beautiful site. So I ended up following them for about an hour through the rice fields where they headed to a Temple. Shot a ton of great pics and video!
Another day I did a road trip up to the Volcano Kintamani, which sits right at lake Batur. It was another great road trip. Ended up cruising around the lake where there where many small villages which often get no tourists. So lets just say we got a few stares. Most people were pretty friendly and the kids were yelling “Hello Mister” trying to practice the little English they know.
I am also in the process of building another custom stretched Vespa here that will hopefully be done in 3 weeks. Once that is done, and the surf is small, think I will take a long journey on it and just see where the road takes me. Still so many beautiful things to see here on the Island. The journey continues….
