June 26th, 2007 – Going To Rote, West Timor
I was supposed to be on a plane last night headed to Rote, West Timor, but the flight got canceled which wasn’t a surprise! Just another day in Indo….. We wasted about 5 hours yesterday at the airport to basically get nowhere. Flight was supposed to leave today at 9am but again it got canceled again! So the story is 5:30pm tonight. Anyway, that’s better than 9am so now I can go for a surf as well as update my webpage!
Ok, so here is the latest from Bali…. I am headed to Rote for a little surf trip with my Swiss friends. Tim, who is a good friend that lives in Bali was also supposed to come but had to cancel because of work. Tim is the official photographer for the ISC (Indonesian Surfing Championships). Rip Curl holds a contest every year at Padang Padang, which depends on the swell as far as when they will have it. Well, surfs been pumping so the contest is on! Below are some pics that Tim took of the trials a few days ago. Oh ya, I also just ran into another friend of mine from named Bugga from Byron Bay, Australia. Bugga and his friends put Tony and me when we were in Australia. Bugga is a tattoo artist in Byron Bay that rides old single fin surfboards and rips. He’s got lots of soul in his surfing! Just a really nice guy, but looks a little intimidating at first because he is covered in tattoo’s from head to toe. This goes back o the saying “never judge a book from its cover”. The funny thing is that I have been trying to reach him this past week since I was headed to Rote and wanted to see if he was coming out soon, then I run into him in the streets of Bali. Funny how that works….
I also have two other friends from home that just arrived a few days ago named Brad & Christy. They just got married and are here on their honeymoon. So I spent a few days with them and now they are off on their own doing some scuba diving and exploring.
Well, that about covers it for now. I won’t be posting anything else on my web until I return from Rote, which will be August 6th at the latest. I also posted some pics below of Bali kids on their Chopper bikes. It’s the latest fad with the kids in Bali. I’ll do another posting soon just on Choppers in Bali, it’s pretty classic…. The journey continues….
